Build Rainproof Prefab A-Frame Mountain Homestay Clusters in 120 Days | Camp Operation Case Study

This article shares a real overseas project of prefabricated wooden cabins in forest areas. Specifically, we completed a campsite renovation for Leo, a camp operator in Germany’s Black Forest.
The Black Forest sees heavy rain and snow all year round. Meanwhile, large temperature gaps also trouble outdoor buildings. Traditional wooden houses and canvas tents easily leak water and lose heat. For this reason, local campsites always suffered heavy operational losses.
To solve these problems, we delivered 12 sets of accommodation units with three core products: weatherproof prefab A frame cabin, A frame glamping cabin and prefab A frame chalet. In addition, we sorted out a complete set of practical steps. Furthermore, these ideas can guide similar forest glamping and mountain homestay projects worldwide.

Three Major Challenges Faced by the Campsite Owner

First of all, let’s get to know the basic project background. The site lies in the northern Black Forest, covering 4,200 square meters. Leo runs an independent campsite. Naturally, he aims to create high-end forest glamping for all-season stays.
Next, Leo looked into three local construction plans. However, all of them failed to solve three key problems.

Poor Weather Resistance Leads to High Maintenance Costs

Traditional on-site A-frame houses only use one layer of waterproof rolls. Besides, thick fog and running rain fill the forest every day.
Rainwater seeps into walls and makes wood rot quickly. Consequently, operators spend around 2,200 euros per cabin on annual repairs. What’s more, moldy cabins will not pass local forest eco-inspections.

Long Construction Period Causes Lost Peak Business Seasons

Local prefabricated cabins need much cutting and assembly on site. In fact, a single cabin takes 45 days to finish.
Twelve cabins will take nearly 11 months in total. Thus, Leo could not seize the peak camping season from June to October.

Single Product Style Blocks Tiered Pricing

Ordinary cabins only meet basic lodging needs. Also, they have no large viewing windows or luxury interior designs.
Leo hoped to set three price levels for different guests. Unfortunately, existing products could not support differentiated room types.

Why the Client Chose Our Prefabricated Cabin Solutions

Leo contacted two local prefab cabin suppliers first. Eventually, he chose our team for five major reasons. Above all, all advantages fit the special conditions of the Black Forest woodland.

Full Rainproof Design Adapts to Humid Woodlands

Our cabins adopt a complete professional rainproof system. Firstly, we use double-layer roof tiles and integrated wall panels for waterproofing and heat preservation.
In addition, elevated base structures block ground moisture. Moreover, all products have passed EU outdoor weather resistance tests. Clearly, a weatherproof prefab A frame cabin works perfectly in damp forest environments. On the contrary, local products cannot stand such harsh conditions.

Three Cabin Types Support Diversified Business Operations

We offer three distinct cabin styles to match different service grades. For one thing, the cost-effective weatherproof prefab A frame cabin serves as standard double guest rooms.
For another, the A frame glamping cabin is equipped with outdoor canopies and fire pits for luxury camping. Lastly, the prefab A frame chalet features Alpine-style interiors and loft viewing platforms. In short, the three styles fully realize Leo’s tiered pricing strategy.

Pile Foundation Meets Local Ecological Regulations

We use spiral ground piles instead of concrete foundations. In this way, this method requires no hardening of forest land.
Apart from that, it saves the long approval process for land construction. Generally speaking, local suppliers mostly use concrete bases. As a result, those bases will lead to long reviews and even potential fines.

High Factory Pre-Assembly Greatly Saves On-Site Time

Our factory completes 92% of all cabin components in advance. Simply put, workers only need to assemble modules on location.
Even if rainy days come, they will barely hold up the construction progress. By comparison, local brands only finish 65% of parts in factories. As a matter of fact, most work has to be done outdoors in the woods.

Split Module Design Suits Narrow Forest Roads

Roads inside the Black Forest are too narrow for large trucks. To deal with this issue, we split each cabin into three separate modules for easy transport.
Then, small local delivery vehicles can carry all components smoothly. Conversely, integrated cabins from local suppliers cannot enter the woodland at all.

120-Day Full Process: From Custom Design to Final Acceptance

The whole project took 120 days from design confirmation to on-site delivery and inspection. Now, we divide the whole process into four stages as below.

Design and Communication (12 Days)

To begin with, our professional engineers adjusted cabin data based on local weather records. So, we changed the A-frame angle to reduce wind resistance.
At the same time, we adjusted the orientation of each cabin. Thereby, we guaranteed good views and avoided risks from falling tree branches.

Factory Production (35 Days)

We launched three production lines to make different cabins. Primarily, we produced 6 units of weatherproof prefab A frame cabin for basic accommodation.
Besides that, we also built 4 units of A frame glamping cabin with fire-retardant canvas canopies. Meanwhile, another 2 units of prefab A frame chalet came with loft stairs and log wall panels.
Before delivery, all wooden parts received anti-corrosion treatment. Furthermore, every cabin passed a strict water leakage test before leaving the factory.

Sea Freight and In-Forest Delivery (40 Days)

We adopted split modular packaging to avoid transport limits. After that, sea shipping from Tianjin Port to Hamburg Port took 30 days.
Prior to arrival, we submitted complete documents beforehand for customs clearance. Hence, no delays happened during this step. Later on, small off-road trucks transported all parts into the forest within 3 days. Also, we covered all materials to keep them dry.

On-Site Assembly and Acceptance (30 Days)

Five local workers installed spiral ground piles and assembled cabin modules. Step by step, they could finish two complete cabins every week.
On-site work only included gap sealing, water and power connection, and canopy installation. Noticeably, we used no cement or sand for construction. Finally, all cabins passed local fire safety, waterproof and ecological inspections. Additionally, we also handed over operation manuals and spare parts.

Project Application Summary & Contact Information

Overall, this set of solutions can be copied for many outdoor scenarios. For example, it works for temperate rainforests, mountain woodlands and lakeside forests.
Also, it suits camp operators, private vacation home owners and scenic area homestay renovators. If you face frequent rain, narrow roads or tight construction schedules, our solutions are your ideal choice. Notably, a prefab A frame chalet, together with the other two cabin types, helps create a profitable high-end lodging business.
Nevertheless, this plan is not fit for extremely windy high-altitude areas or permanently frozen land. Naturally, such special sites need exclusive customized structures.
If you have similar project needs, feel free to get in touch. In turn, our dedicated project engineers will assess your requirements within 24 hours.
